Abstract: Background and Objectives: Brachial plexus block is often used for the surgery of the upper extremity. Magnesium Sulphate can be administered with multiple routes for analgesia. We have compared the duration of the postoperative analgesic effect of MgSO4 intravenous bolus or as an adjunct to ropivacaine for brachial plexus block.Sensory and motor block onset times, Ramsay sedation scale, time to first analgesic use, total analgesic need, postoperative Numeric Rating Scale, hemodynamic variables, and side effects were recorded for each patient.Findings: Conclusion: USG-guided Brachial Plexus block with MgSO4 as an adjuvant to ropivacaine as a bolus or intravenous prolongs the duration of postoperative analgesia and decreases the requirement of rescue analgesics with no side effects.
