Abstract: Purpose: Failure to achieve project success due to cost and schedule overruns may negatively affect an organization's financial strength, profitability, and competitive advantage. Grounded in the triple constraint model, we investigated the relationship between cost, schedule overruns, and project success in the nuclear construction industry in the United Kingdom. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected from 66 project managers, project directors, project control, delivery integration managers, and construction project planners. The multiple linear regression analysis was carried out. Findings: The multiple linear regression analysis results were significant, F (2,63) = 19.002, p < .05, R2 = .38. Schedule overruns provided the only statistically significant contribution to the model (β =.462, p = .002). Practical implications: A key recommendation is for organizational leaders to implement strategic trade-off plans by prioritizing project schedules over cost to improve project success, profitability, and competitive advantage. Social Implication: The implication for positive social change included the potential to empower the local community by creating jobs.
