Abstract: Twelve potato genotypes comprising of improved and local varieties were evaluated for genetic potentials in agronomic, yield and internal qualities in Nguroje area of the Mambila Plateau, Taraba State, during the rainy season of 2022. The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design, which was replicated three times. Results of analysis of variance showed significant difference among the genotypes for all the traits except specific gravity, indicating the existence of significant variation within the genotypes. Phenotypic coefficient of variation was generally higher than their corresponding genotypic coefficient of variation revealing the influence of environment on expression of the characters. Higher phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation were recorded for starch content (44.30, 41.55), number of leaves per plant (35.34, 31.09), and leaf length (34.44, 26.44).Result of cluster analysis revealed that the varieties were grouped into 3 main clusters.Genotypes falling in cluster 1 and 3 showed highest mean values for yield and internal quality traits, while genotype in cluster 2 recorded highest for growth characters. The diversity exhibited among the genotypes signifies its potential for effective breeding.
