Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine changes in the health indices of undernourished anemic, adult women (18-50 years) after receiving a nutrition intervention for 120 days. For this purpose a highly nutritious, cost effective, easy to prepare, ready-to-cook food product i.e. Nutrient Dense Ingredient Mix (NDIM) was formulated. The developed mix was found to be energy dense as 100g of cooked NDIM provided 437.4 Kcal of energy, 13.58g protein and 3.62mg of iron. The experimental group was supplemented with NDIM daily for 120 days along with effective nutrition education on a fortnightly basis whereas the subjects form the control group received no supplementation or nutrition education. Data regarding the dietary intake, anthropometric measurements and hemoglobin levels of subjects was collected before and after the intervention. To assess the effectiveness of the nutrition education imparted to the experimental group and its difference from that of the control group, pre and post assessment of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice i.e. KAP score was used as an evaluation tool. A comparative analysis of nutritional profile and knowledge of subjects from both the groups revealed that the nutrition intervention caused a significant improvement in the nutritional profile of the experimental group.
