Abstract: Essential oils are a mixture of volatile lipophilic constituents, most commonly sourced from leaf, bark tissue of higher plants. The study investigated the total phenolic contents of essential oil obtained from Cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass) and Persea Americana mill (avocado pear seed) and its bioactive component. Methods: The essential oils of both plants were obtained using the Soxhlet extraction method. Total phenol compositions were assayed using standard colourimetric methods. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) analysis was used to ascertain the presence of phytochemicals in the extract.
