Abstract: Introduction: Breakfast is the first meal of a day. The word in English refers to breaking the fasting period of the previous night. While breakfast is commonly referred to as “the most important meal of the day.” Some epidemiological research indicates that having breakfast high in rapidly available carbohydrates increases the risk of metabolic syndrome. Present professional opinion is largely in favour of eating breakfast. Most of us skip breakfast for various reasons without being aware of its consequences. So the present study aims to assess the breakfast compliance and factors associated with breakfast skipping among students of JIPMER, Pondicherry. Methodology: A cross sectional descriptive research design was used. The study included total 356 students studying in JIPMER. Convenient sampling technique was used. A validated semi-structure questionnaire was prepared to assess the breakfast compliance, and the behaviors leading to skipping of breakfast among the student of JIPMER. Sample size was calculated using Open-Epi version-3. Data collection was done within 3 days with coded sheets of samples.The students also understand the importance of breakfast in our everyday lives.The factors that were associated with skipping of breakfast included: due to emotional reasons, non-availability of traditional foods, hindrance of environmental hygiene of dining area for those who resides in the hostel as well as getting up late.did not skip due to any of the above-mentioned reasons.
