Abstract: In the modern era, poor solubility is one of the major problems preventing drugs to reach to market. There are several methods for improving the solubility of medications that are poorly soluble. Nanocrystals have been identified as a helpful and effective method of drug delivery. Nanocrystals are a family of solid medications that combine the principle of nanoscience with the crystal structure to produce benefits in the area of dissolution rate and physicochemical properties. Various techniques are now available to prepare nanocrystals. In this review, a detailed insight on conventional and recent techniques of nanocrystals preparation along with route of administration, merits, and demerits of nanocrystals, has been provided. In addition, various nanocrystals formulations prepared by various researchers, characterization and marketed formulation with formulations available in clinical phase are summarized in this review. Quantum dots also termed semiconductor nanocrystals and Wulff construction are also discussed.
